Show Travel policy discussed in school board meeting During a special meeting held Monday Sept 19 at the Uintah School District offices the Uintah School Board accepted as the first reading a Transportation Tran Tran- Reimbursement policy which may replace the existing travel policy which had been under close scrutiny and attack by a group of local citizens recently The proposed travel policy will become official following the second reading during today's Sept 22 board meeting The proposal was submitted to the board by a committee consisting of Chairman Billy Murray John Dan Turner George Murray L L. Wayne Reid Bob Chandler and Grant Drollinger The board accepted the following travel proposal as the first reading Intra State Travel No employee will be reimbursed for out-of-district out travel unless such travel shall have been approved in advance by bythe bythe bythe the Superintendent of Schools or orthe orthe orthe the Board of Education When such buch travel has been approved in advance reimbursement reimbursement shall be according to the following terms 1 1 District cars should be used whenever possible If a personal car must be used and andis is approved reimbursement will be a at t the ra rate te of 15 cents per mile 2 2 Uintah School District will reimburse employees for lodging at the rate of 25 2500 00 per person per day or 1500 per person per day when sharing a room 3 3 Employees will be reimbursed for meals at the rate of per meal Inter State Travel The Board recognizes the educational value to be derived from occasional attendance at national and regional con cone am and workshops by school employees Attendance at such conventions and workshops will be according to toa toa toa a schedule adopted by the Board Any out of state convention must be prior approved by the Board at an open meeting and a dollar amount of relm reimbursement reimbursement arrived at and approved for said trip at that time There will be complete effort cHort to arrive at actual expenses expenses ex ex- ex costs casts Coach plane fare will be used Also discussed at the special meeting was a proposal on how to divide the operation and maintenance of the swimming pool located at the Vernal Jr High campus between the school district Vernal City and Uintah County The board approved a proposal submitted by John The proposal was to tobe tobe tobe be presented at the Vernal City Council meeting held last night In the proposal suggests the school district pay for one third of the operating expenses with the other two- two thirds being divided between the city and the county bases this recommendation recommendation on his study findings that show the school used the pool a total of 1300 hours last year compared to hours that it t was used by other entities entities en en- IN ADDITION to the operating costs the district proposes they will pay percent of the salary of Arnie Anthon swimming instructor tor for the district while the city and county divide the payment of th the salaries of other staff Continued on Page 16 Travel policy policy Continued from Page PaRe 1 associated with the pool The district also proposes that the other two governmental governmental govern govern- mental entities entitles share the total Income of the pool between them In addition to handling the total administration and handling of the pool It was mentioned that the agreement between the three agencies Is for a year one-year contract only and will probably be amended next year At the conclusion of the meeting it was voted on to retire for executive session to lo discuss a matter Involving personnel and personalities PRIOR TO the executive session Tom Snyder raised two questions concerning the dropout dropout dropout drop drop- out prevention program and the viewing of the minutes of board meetings Snyder asked why it appeared the out drop-out rate here was two times higher than those he had seen for Daggett and Cache County school systems In response Dr Reid stated he would reply to that in writing Snyders Snyder's second question pertained to what the reasonable amount of time was before minutes of executive sessions are available to the public It was answered that several factors are involved with the amount of time that lapses before the minutes are available Length of meetings personnel on hand to transcribe the minutes and the conditions surrounding the availability of having someone do the transcribing transcribing transcribing tran tran- scribing of minutes into the minutes book were named as some reasons for delay Ken Anderton stated the minutes should be available to the public as soon as possible Even if the minutes arent aren't recorded in the book copies of the minutes should be available It was noted though that the minutes of meetings arent aren't official and available f for r general publication until after the board approves the minutes at the succeeding board meeting |
