Show RICHFIELD ROAD SCHEME SEEMS TO BE A GOOD IDEA the richfield chamber of commerce la Is out with a pamphlet on a road program which la is worthy ot of support it advocates the construction of a hard surfaced cross reaching from logon logan to st georgo george and from rom vernal to garrison to be sure aura fault can bo be found with the layout for instance it should include a road from richfield to kanab a road from price to grand junction also one from to cove fort would improve the system but taken as a whole aholo it is an admirable scheme one which all of the state could well afford to get behind and support ahe following editorial appearing in tho the citizen of salt lake city handles the subject very ably wrid and makes interesting reading road problem a problem that must be solved soon it if the state la Is to attain her proper place in the chesun flun sun and a solution a prospectus gotten up on good roads by the richfield commercial club la Is tho the best beat idea and suggestion that has over ever been advanced along these lines in the history of the state I 1 ave we have talked about good roads and have made many beginnings but nil all our past efforts sink into lusig alfance as compared with the proper solution as advocated by this etva organization of business men the richfield commercial club the booklet which Is made up lu lit a neat and compact manner teems with information gathered from all the large road authoritative centers of the country and contains reliable facts and figures on road build nig it also shows how this state can adopt a ten year program in which time every important highway in the state could bo be paved at a saying saving of thousands of dollars yes yea millions tu to the automobile owners of the state A cross in the form of a permanent Irn paved highway to extend across the state from east to wast and from north to south will not only bring u unprecedented prosperity to utah but taps the center of our population we wonder why our larger cities did not awaken to such a road before tho the road represents u paved cross placed on our state beginning at the east there la Is vernal roosevelt myton tapping the rich uinta basin price huntington castle castie gate emery salina marysvale Marys vale beaver milford to garrison on the west boundary ot of the state and then the road would continue nearly direct west to san francisco under present conditions we go west from the part of the state instead of the central part and miss the center of population this prospective road then starts at logan and goes fouth to brigham city ogden salt lake city lent lehi american fork provo payson nephi ephriam Ephr lam mantl manti salina rich foeldi cedar city st george and to los angeles california it will thus be seen that anu members of the richfield commercial club have carefully planned nned a cross road running through all the larger cities of the state and which roads also strike into the very heart ot of our great scenic winders of the state many or of which can only be reached over poor dirt roads at tho the present time fortunately for richal eld that city occupies an enviable position at almost at the cross crasa section of the big cross utah Is losing tourist traffic and aind Is also depriving herself of certain comforts andi essentials fr which there Is little or no excuse the tourist travel which we could get in constructing ting such a highway would pay for the cost of construction but thy the people of this state must havo have ad vanco money it la is simply a business proposition and it if we have falth lit in our state we will build the road I 1 if a paved TOLL road could be laid along the lines suggested in shtil pamphlet the money could be raised in one week as a business pro proposition post to build tho the rood and it Is safo safe to say that the stock would be over subscribed why then is it not just as good a business proposition to the state we wa have our fine office buildings our line fine schools and the ataru atatu capitol Is a wonderful building wo have built them all upon a business I 1 program tho the road loading to fco any one of them Is just as essential good pa roada bring in business and harmonize the people bad roads kill business and even eien keep neighbors strangers because they cannot visit each other the road solution is by far tho the most important matter coming up bo be fore the legislature and each and every member should give this subject his careful attention and study the problem let us do away with much of our waste and unimportant corn mir missions and bureaus and put the money copey into good roads an favest ment which means something to ana state andi and which will make up richer in the end the cost of agi an article Is of little consideration the important thing after all Is how much have I 1 got loft left after all hills bills are ara paid it Is better to pay 2 per bushel tor for wheat and have the money to pay for it than have ane wheat selling for 25 cents a bushel and not have the money to purchase it it if every automobile owner would keep an exact account of his auto expenses gas guel and upkeep while traveling over gravel roads and compare the cost with the low cost over the concrete pavement cheru would now be over enthus enthusiastic las owners of machines urging thy the legislature to take immediate stops to construct P paved avea highway which would save them millions th ib fuel and depreciation we earnestly urge every commercial club and every other club in the state to back up tip the old chamber of coom merce and put over this paved cross several years ago governor goo geo 11 dern spoke of just such a cross dars farour for our state |
