Show SOLDIERS MEMORIAL for the purpose of erecting in salt salta lake city a memorial bulf building ding honoring the memory of utah men and women who have served with the colors in all wars the state legislature will be asked luring during the present session to authorize a bond issue of about to be added to the already provided by salt lake city which will insure the erection of a building costing approximately half it i million dollars I 1 if favorable action is secured it is proposed to build a monumental structure housing an auditorium for public functions the armory of the national guard of utah offices for the personnel of the national guard stationed in salt lake city and separate rooms devoted to meeting places for the american legion veterans of foreign wars disabled american veterans of the world war marine corps league spanish war veterans na grand army of the republic inam gridlan war veterans association and auxiliaries of these organizations in addition there would be provided rooms for exhibition of war trophies bistor I 1 ical allta military ry records and other mayor C clarence of salt lake started the ball rolling two or three weeks ago with the appointment of a large advisory committee in salt lake and the organization has expanded into subcommittees under the general direction of former governor charles R mabey as permanent chairman it will be pointed out to the legislature by sponsors of the bond issue measure that the state of utah is the only one in the union which has haa done nothing toward providing a memorial to its soldiers sailors marines and other service veterans of all wars while a state memorial commission was appointed seven or eight yeara ago by governor mabey no definite defini te steps have been taken by the state toward financing the salt lake city under the ad administration mini on of mayor W mont ferry voted for foi the cites share of a memorial building with this fund as a lucele us the committee will go before the legislature in an effort to obtain the balance from the state on a bond issue 0 |
