Show hog cholera is at milford very serious cases of hog cholera have developed on farms farm near milford two herd hard of hogs ancl ana much of the third had been destroyed by this desense deseae before the farmer owning the last named herd reported it to the county agent in one case hogs hoga are reported w 0 o have died in one week for a person with intelligence enough to own this many hogs this is at an outrage against the progress and development of beaver bounty to say noth nothing ing of public health if the persons concerned did not know it to be hog cholera they certainly did know it was contagious and of a very serious nature and should have reported it to health officers for investigation A quarantine has been established by state veterinarians and the public are asked to aid in making this effective the feet of attendants trespassers dogs eats cats and even birds or anything that may carry dust particles and thus germs may spread the debease de sease wherever any hogs have been exposed a quarantine should be established until three weeks after any symptoms have hav 1 e been observed all sick and dead hogs hog pens and fixtures should be burned and runs plowed attendants and all fixtures f ix tures exposed to the debease that cannot be burned should be roughly thoroughly ho infected dh by a 5 per cent carbolic acid or other strong di dr it t is advised to vaccinate all ail well hogs in the county to prevent the debease as there h N no cure and vaccination is useless with sick hogs where breeding stock is kept the simultaneous treat treatment mant should ba used with a little instruction and instruments farmers can vaccinate thuir thair own hogs where any one wishes it done fortham for them they should make application for it in time to send for the hog cholera serum as it is perishable H A christia risen county agent U S dept of agriculture |
