Show EPIDEMIC OF two yore more disastrous eions in brigham city EDITOR it seems as though we are having an egide epidemic in of conflagration on saturday last at midnight some infernal incendiary scattered coal oil over the back premises of the presbyterian pastorate on slain main street and set fire to the same but the li light h t from the flame was discovered by th jhb lady and assistance being obtained the premi premises seq were saved from destruction had this fire not been baen discovered when etwas it was and extinguished it is probable that those ladies sleeping in the building would have lost their lives shortly afterwards how avei the stable and barn belong to the same property was discovered in flames names and the alarm was given by ringing the bell of the presbyterian church as our court house bell is ia out of repair having been cracked by over ringing on statehood day the fire brigade was soon on hand and did what they could to save saie the building but their noble efforts were but bat MY illy rewarded and the stable and barn and their contents were consumed A valuable boope belonging to judge kirk which was war in the stable was wa burned by this time the citizens had became aroused and wire oil oa th the scene escene just as this fire was gotten under control another fire started on the premi aromi es cg of mr chas knudsen 0 on n south street be between Plea pleasant Rant ant and main streets whither the large crowds together with the firemen hastened with all possible speed it was soon found that the fire had been started in the hay bay inside mr air knudsens Knud sens large and commodious barn and was making rapid headway the huge buge flames flame leaping leaping high in the air and endangering the fine handsome new residence which mr knudsen is completing pl the west gable was smoking and scotching scorching when the firemen arrived but a powerful stream of water beater was obtained sad and poured upon the building air and it was saved hut but the barn an and con can tents were consumed mr knudsen succeeded in rescuing one horse but two valuable cows and one horse ware burned also three wagons mrs S squires laires ne next at d door gor also lost one val valuable babl e cow mr knudsen had no insurance on that property his loss is about tl 1500 00 it was and is the opinion of all that these fires were the work of an incendiary and the officers and city authorities are doing all in their power to bring 0 the perpetrators to light 0 and pun ih them had they been caught on the night 0 of the fires it is probable they would have received the severe Fevere and just punishment which they deserve J B D CITY rich feb 20 1899 |
