Show PEOPLE'S COUNTY CONVENTION. On Saturday last, in the Tabernacle basement, a People's County Convention was held, consisting of delegates chosen from the various precincts of the county. Only one delegate was absent. Simpson M. Molen, Esq. [Esquire], was made temporary chairman, and W. W. Maughan, temporary secretary. A committee on credentials was appointed, consisting of R. S. Campbell, James Mack, W. H. Maughan, H. A. Shaw and John Jardine. After receiving the report of the committee on credentials, the convention adopted a motion to make the temporary nomination [?] permanent, and elected James Cosworth [?] chaplain, who proceeded to offer a prayer. After some discussion the convention elected to select two delegates from the northern part of the county, two from Logan, and two from the south end of the valley, making six in all, the apportionment of Cache county to send to the Territorial convention. The convention rejected a motion for a [unreadable] committee, and passed a motion to select the delegates in ballot from nominations made from the body of the house. Three tellers [?] were appointed by the chair. The result of the first ballot was the election of R. S. Campbell and J. Z. Stewart. The delegates to be selected north of Logan were next ballotted [balloted] for and James Mack of Smithfield and W. C. Burnham of Richmond were elected. L. C. Thoreson [?] of Hyrum and Joseph Howell of Wellsville were next elected as the delegates from the southern part of the valley. These six gentlemen will be worthy representatives of Cache county in the People's Territorial Convention to be held in Salt Lake on October 9th. After the election of the delegates the convention proceeded to elect a standing county central committee of the People's Party as follows: W. R. Preston (chairman), C. O. Card, G. W. Thatcher, W. D. Thatcher, W. H. Maughan, S. M. Molon [?] and W. T. Skidmore. A hearty good feeling characterized the proceedings throughout. |
