Show LOCALISMS. • The fuel question grows in importance daily, and still no solution is offered. • CACHE Valley Stake has donated to Logan Temple nearly or quite $200,000. • The Y. M. M. I. A. conference, held in Logan Tabernacle on Sunday last, was very interesting and profitable. • CONFERENCE tickets will be sold here from the 4th until the 7th, good to return till the 10th inst, inclusive. The fair to Salt Lake and return is only $3.75. • This year we had a very cold winter, a very late spring, and from present appearances we will have a very short autumn. Winter seems rapidly approaching. • TO-DAY we received a call from Mr. Geo. [George] Guton, the pleasant representative of the New York Life Insurance Company. He is stopping at the Cache Valley House. • THE theatrical performances at Salt Lake will prove a pleasant attraction for visitors during the evening. See our advertising columns for dates and pieces to be presented. • AN introduction to Mr. Chas. [Charles] Cato of London, Eng. [England] revealed that he was visiting Logan, with a view of ascertaining its resources and admiring its surroundings. • COMPLAINTS are made that the sweepings from certain stores on Main Stret are permitted to remain on or near the sidewalks, littering it and the street and creating an unsightly [unreadable]. • WE had a pleasant call this afternoon from Mr. C. L. Holland, the Utah agent for Messrs. [Messieurs] Hook [?], Haser & Co. [Company] of St. Joseph, Mo. [Missouri]. This enterprising young man is here pushing his goods throughout Cache Valley with success. • A FEW days ago some mischievous boys with dogs drove a yoke of cattle belonging to [unreadable] Hansen, into a deep ditch, from which they could not extricate themselves, and the cattle died, entailing a loss of $125 on the owner. It is a pity those boys cannot be convicted. • WE would call the attention of the public to the new advertisement of Messrs. Paine & Mattison, which appears in our present issue. This firm handles the popular "Mitchell Wagon," and keep a full line of the best farming implements and the celebrated "Concord Harness." A large stock to select from, at reasonable prices. • THE performance of "Will and the Way" in Providence Theatre last Saturday evening was very successful in an artistic point of view. All of the performers [unreadable] themselves creditably. The entertainment deserved a large house. The audience, though small, was very appreciative. • IN the official list of premiums awarded at the late fair, Messrs. Cardon & Thatcher are reputed to have received only one diploma, the one for upholstery work. The fact is, several articles in their exhibit were awarded a diploma. In this connection we wish to state that the Journal publishes the list of premiums as it is furnished to us officially, and we disclaim all responsibility for discrepancies in it. |
