Show EXTENSIVE FIRE. We learn from the Ogden Herald of yesterday of the destruction of the Weber Mills and S.H. Higginbotham & Co's. (Company's) store at Ogden on Sunday morning. In the mills where 1,500 bushels of grain and a large quantity of bran and shorts were stored, together with all the fixtures and machinery were totally destroyed. There is nothing of the establishment but the bare walls, and parts of them have fallen. The fire soon communicated itself to the store of S.H. Higginbotham & Co. (Company), which is entirely consumed. But through the unremitting exertions of the citizens much of the merchandise was saved from the fire fiend. The fire brigade arrived on the spot as quickly as possible, but not in time to protect the buildings. They succeeded, however, in saving the residence of Mr. Higginbotham from the conflagration. Great credit is due to the citizens for their zeal and untiring diligence in endeavoring to rescue property from the flames. The loss to Hon. (Honorable) D.H. Peery, who owned the mills, is estimated at $60,000, no part of which was insured. Messers. Higginbotham's loss is from $8,000 to $10,000, fully insured. |
