By LYN CONNELLY PEE WEE REESE, the "Little who captains the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team, recently became a radio star with inauguration of his new "Pee Wee Reese Show" broadcast over the. Mutual network every Saturday afternoon . . . The program, though live in New York, is taped and therefore able to be heard at the same time 5:45 to 6:00 p. m. in every city where it is carried. . . Of course, when Pee Wee is travell-ing with his team, the tape re-cordings are made in advance and New York gets them that way, too. Pee Wee, aided in this series by MBC news personality, Frank Singiser, bats out behlnd-the-great-anecdotes, and sports In-formation such as the proper way to slide and the safety reasons for keeping the knee bent while slid-ing. . . He bases his programs on his many years' experience as one of the diamond-game- s' most pop-ular players. YOUNG VETERAN Reese, who was actually christ-ened Harold but received the nick-name when competing in a young-iter-'s marble shoot, is one of the youngest veterans in major league play today. . . He was only 19 when he joined the Brooklyn Club In the National League In 1940 and tried out for the shortstop berth. . . . He's been at that position ever since, and is one of the most re-spected players on the squad as well as in the entire league. . . His major league playing career was interrupted only once, when he served a war-tim- e hitch in the V. S. navy, but be was back in active play by 1916. The "Pee Wee Reese Show" is produced by MBC Sports Director Paul Jonas ... It is probably one of the fastest-movin- most infor-mative baseball shows on the air, a natural for fans of the national pastime and for boys learning the rudiments of the game. |
