Show PORTRAIT ARTIST. On Wednesday last Mr. Fred Hurst brought to our sanctum a charcoal portrait of his deceased brother Charles, who died some months since. The portrait was the work of Mr. Willie Hurst, and proves the great improvement that has resulted from his recent studies in Boston. It is, indeed, a fine likeness, and proves a very marked talent in the artist. Charcoal [unreadable] while they give the artist an opportunity to make a strong picture, and depict strongly the character lines of a subject, most people prefer the smoother crayon portrait, and its finer texture. We have become so well satisfied with the talent and style of this young artist that we have given him an order for a crayon portrait, and earnestly recommend others of our readers, who wish a good life size portrait, to patronize home talent by giving their orders to Mr. Hurst. |
