Show THE BUREAU BALL. This pleasant social event came off in Providence Hall on Friday evening last. The company was a strictly select and very ?[sociale] one, and the ball on the whole, was one of the most enjoyable of the season. It was not as largely attended as was anticipated, and as a consequence there was abundant opportunity for all to dance as often as they wished. Pres. [President] Preston was present, and by his counsel dancing stopped at midnight. Before the company dispersed they were addressed by Pres. Preston, who explained that the Presidency of the Church had issued instructions to [unreadable] dances closed not later than ? [12] o'clock, and that he hoped this rule would, in future be observed here. By some inadvertence the invitations for parties in Providence that were written on Wednesday by the Bureau, were not delivered till Friday afternoon. This caused the invited individuals to feel that they had been slighted, and did not give them time for necessary preparations. We deeply regret this, but can only assure those who were invited from Providence that it was no fault of the Bureau that they did not receive their invitations earlier. |
