Show "GO FROM HOME TO HEAR THE NEWS" A correspondent of the Salt Lake Herald, under date of Aug. 2d, writes from Logan, that the greatest sensation of the season had occurred here, a few evenings previous to that date. A young man, having just parted from his lady love, and taken his way homeward at a late hour, was waylaid near a cold, deep stream of water and "doused." The writer hints that a brother of the young lady and an unsuccessful rival of the victim, participated in the "dousing," and says that it is the second time within six weeks that the young man has been made the victim of similar treatment, the first affair having been taken into court. We think there can be no misunderstanding as to whom the correspondent refers to, and we, strongly suspecting that there was no truth in the statement, have thoroughly investigated the matter, and are informed by a member of the family of the alleged victim, and by several of his intimate friends, that he has not been molested since the trial and punishment of the parties who perpetrated the former assault upon him. Even if it were possible that the correspondent referred to some one else, we believe the account to be a hoax, as it would be next to impossible for such an affair to occur in Logan and not be generally known, and diligent inquiry has failed to bring to light any such an occurrence. The Herald ?? has got hold of some news "what aint so." |
