Show Census. The first day of June is set for the census enumerators to commence their work. Some persons may have an idea that this is an easy work and soon over, but such are lately mistaken. The questions to be asked each head of a family are very numerous, and require considerable time and patience in answering them; people must not, therefore, think the census taker impertinent or that he is going beyond the laws limit should they be required to make reply to two or three hundred interrogations. In order to save time, farmers should be prepared to give statistics regarding the amount, kind, and value of the land they own, and of the products of their farms; also the number of domestic animals and poultry raised and their value-while manufacturers should give minute information concerning their business and production. The relation of each person in the house on June 1st to the head of the family must ? ?. The names of persons who have died during the past year with the ?, etc., will be requested. This, however, is but an ? to some of the ? of the questions. Corrections ? must be given to the enumerator, and any person who declines to comply with the requirements of the law will be liable to a fine of one hundred dollars. |
