Show UTAH LEGISLATURE In the Council Feb. 2, the bill for an act to organized the county of San Juan was taken up, amended and passed, and sent to the House. <br><br> The bill for an act conferring original jurisdiction on justices of the peace, was taken up and passed its second reading, as amended on Friday. The amendments consisted of striking out all of section 2 after the word "that," and inserting section 1732 of the Compiled Laws of Utah, amended by adding the following as subdivision 11 to said section: "Justices" courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction in all cases where the debt or damage or value of property does not exceed $100. The rules were suspended, and the bill was taken up on its third reading by its title; the title was amended so as to read "An act amending section 1732 of the Compiled Laws of Utah," and the bill passed. <br><br> In the house Feb. 2, Mr. Smith moved to take from the table the bill for the act to amend an act establishing district and precinct pounds, and prescribing regulations for conducting the same and for disposing of stray animals. It was thereupon taken up and read by sections, and with a few amendments passed. <br><br> Mr. Penrose presented a bill amending section 43 of the Compiled Laws of Utah. The bill amends the section by inserting after the word "election," in the eighth line, "And be eligible to hold the office of treasurer, librarian, notary public, trustee of any school district; or any educational or clerical office." Ordered laid on the table. <br><br> Feb 3, the bill specifying the offices women shall hold, was read a second time, and after a long discussion was stricken out. <br><br> Mr. Farr, from the committee on Judiciary, reported back the bill relating to the boundary lines of Rich County with an amendment, and recommended that it be put upon its passage. The amendment was read and adopted. |
