Show IN VIEW OF THE PROMINENCE which the Woman Question has assumed in this Territory, let us quote the following incident, as related by an exchange. A certain gentleman living in one of the outlying wards of Boston, and in apparent good circumstances, has been for years past in the habit of paying simply a poll tax. This year he was astonished at receiving a tax bill to the amount of $1,100. Upon visiting the assessor to know what it meant, they commenced interrogating him in relation to the ownership of certain mortgages, stocks, etc., and when cornered, he confessed that they belonged to him, and that the tax bill was all right. In reply to his persistent inquiries as to who had furnished them with the information, they finally informed him that his wife had been registered as a voter, and when questioned as to her qualifications, had enumerated the various taxable properties of her liege lord. |
