Show TERRITORIAL TALK. GRANT - General Ulysses S. passed through Ogden last Thursday on his way eastward.

ABOUT 1,500 Jack rabbits were killed on the Kaysville sandridge, one day last week.

FROM THE NEWS: Mrs. A. W. ?? has been appointed postmaster at Chester, Sanpete county; and Mrs. F. C. Fuller has received a similar appointment for the office at Carnsburgh, Washington county.

ELDER Rudger Clawson returned home Saturday evening, from Dalton, Georgia, whither he went about a month ago to attend the trial of the murderers of Elder Standing. President John Morgan will remain in his field of labor for the present.

SATURDAY afternoon, a most shocking accident occurred in the 7th Ward, which has since proved fatal to its victim, a little son of Robert Condie, between two and three years old. The child had been put up in the loft of the barn, to play in the hay with some other children, and by some mischance fell therefrom, a distance of ?? feet and struck head first upon an inverted bake-kettle, one of the iron legs of which entered the skull and inflicted a deep and dangerous wound. Dr. Hamilton was summoned and found it necessary to remove a portion of the skull, from which the brains were oozing. But little hope was entertained of the child's recovery, and it occasioned more sorrow than surprise, therefore, when last night, about 10 o=clock, the little victim breathed its last. We deeply sympathize with the afflicted parents in their sad bereavement.

WE WERE shown, Tuesday morning, the hat worn by Elder Joseph Standing at the time he was murdered. The relic was brought from Georgia by Elder Rudger Clawson, on his recent return from the Southern States, and placed in the care of Professor Barfoot, the curator of the Deseret Museum, by whom it was exhibited at our office. The hat is soiled with ?? and blood, bears the marks of the assassins bullets, evidently having been preserved in the condition in which it was found. It is a sad but interesting relic, and will be placed side by side with the mementos of the prophets murdered at Carthage.

FROM THE JUNCTION: Prof. Fowler appeared before his Honor Chief Justice Hunter, at Salt Lake City, Tuesday, and was admitted to bail in the sum of $1,500. Messrs. W. H. Wright and ??. N. Geodale were his sureties. At the request of Mr. Richards, of defendant=s counsel, he was given until Tuesday, the 11th inst. to plead to the indictment.

FROM THE HERALD: The boy that had the tumor cut from his face some time ago by Dr. Benedict, has so ' Hospital, eats like a wolf, and can talk astoundingly plain, considering that he had half his jaw cut out. This is one of the most remarkable operations ever performed here. |
