Show B.D1A FLASHES by Jim Abplanalp BDAA NINE DOWN FORKERS: FIGHT FOR SECOND HALF The Bingham entry in the Utah Industrial league, kept in the thick of things for second half laurels by downing the powerful American Fork crew here Wednesday night 8 to 4. The Miners found the slants of the Forker star, Al Tate, for 13 'binrles, including four for four by Russell Gust and three safeties by Kent Murdock. Gust, besides turning in a brilliant defensive job at second base, drove in 6 of the locals 8 runs, three on an inside the park homer, ho-mer, and the other three with a sharp double with the sacks loaded. Babcock rapped out a pair of hits, and drove in the initial tally. George Sluga again proved his mastery over the first half champs, going all the way and scattering 10 hits. Murdock broke up what looked like a big Forker rally, as he leaped high against the right field barrier to snag a terrific drive by Earl Owen that was well labeled fori a home run. PEACHES HERE TONIGHT Bingham plays host to the Brigham City Peaches here tonight to-night and travel to Provo for the final league encounter Monday, Mon-day, September 3rd. The Bingham nine must win both of its remaining games to gain a tie with the American Fork club. The Forkers have finished their second half schedule sche-dule with a record of 11 wins and 4 losses. Bingham has 9 wins and 4 losses, and must win their last two. The local nine defeated the Forkers all three games in the second half and are battling every play for a chance at the league championship. champion-ship. SOFTBALL SLANTS The Princess theatre boys did it again. In a play-off series for the BDAA Softball championship. champion-ship. The theatre nine clubbed out a pair of victories over a strong Gemmell club squad, 16 to 9 and 2 to 1. The double victory vic-tory by the theatre boys climaxed climax-ed another season of highly interesting in-teresting softball play, and we wish to. thank all players and fans for their fine turnouts. Awards will be given to the 1951 champs, and we congratulate congratu-late them on their fine play and sportsmanship. Television Winner Although the winner of the beautiful Motorola television set was not present at the BDAA dance, he expressed his delight and happiness when informed of his good fortune. The winner, Ramon J. Irrizarry, of Copper-field, Copper-field, holder of ticket No. 039L, was notified as soon as his stub was drawn from the cage during dur-ing the dance. A fine crowd enjoyed the dance and music of Ackerlind's fine orchestra, and we wish to thank everyone who helped us on this activity. Proceeds of the dance will go a long way in aiding aid-ing the BDAA sports programs. Thanks again to everyone. . . |
