Show There is merit in the proposition to annex to Utah that portion of Arizona north of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. The unbridged crevasse in the earth's surface forms an impassable barrier isolating the northwest portion of Arizona. The corner of land involved would hardlv be missed from Arizona, and its interests in-terests and associations are with Utah. It has become a resort for the lawless because of its physical separation from its own seat of government, and its respectable people, for their own protection, want to be annexed to Utah, with which communication is easy. Parallels of latitude arid longitude are the natural boundaries to map makers only. Physical lines of separation sep-aration ought not to be ignored in State making, though they often are, as witness the divided State of Maryland. The Grand Canyon is a nutural boundary if there ever was one, and State lines should be drawn accordingly. -Philadelphia Press. . i |
