Show OREGON SHORT LINE. Formal Transfer Made Last Tuesday Tues-day Morning. From The Salt Lake Tribune. At 12:01 this morning the Oregon Short Line commenced operating its lines as an independent system. The first train due to arrive was the through passenger from the East at 3:30 a. m. and the first to depart will be the "Overland limited", at 7 a. m. The segregation marks the third change in the lines of the system which were formerly many separate companies and then merged into the Oregon Short Line & Utah Northern, North-ern, and united with the Union Pacific, to form an important part of that immense system, whose lines, - ' . before the receivership changes, ex- tended from the Gulf of Mexico to Puget sound.' But one by one the important branches. have he.p.n lonp4ar-:"?-".. on .rnriXenver : &;,Gulf is under . - " a separate receiver, the Oregon' , Railroad - and Navigation company h reorganized and last midnight saw the final act in the segregation of the Utah and Idaho lines, which cover 142 1 miles and which will hereafter be known a the Oregon Short Line rudroad. 4 By the change, Salt Lake will be greatly benefitted, through the general gen-eral offices being located here. The number of people it will bring to the city to reside is alone a matter o'f great importance to local trades- men, owners of houses and hotel keepers. As the general office- will include so many clerks in addition to the officials, very large sum will be distributed in the city every' month. Utah also secures another purely local railroad company. All its general officers being here, there will be no business delay as in the past, when matters had to be referred to Omaha. All its employees will be citizens of Utah and Idaho, principally, prin-cipally, so the total pay roll each month will nearly, be confined to these two States. Another important fact to be taken into consideration, and one that will greatly help the road, is that its managing officials are Utah men, railroad men of great experience experi-ence and especially weil informed upon matters pert lining to the region through which the road runs..
