Show some of the results of the first year's examinations: ' K Of 819 samples of all kinds examined, ex-amined, 570 were pure, 21 doubtful, doubt-ful, and 25-1 adulterated. Of 88 samples of black pepper examined 50' were pure and 29 adulterated with pepper hulls, bran, corn, rice, wheat, oats, buckwheat, buck-wheat, linseed, olive . seed, , rape seed, shells of cocoanut, almonds and other nuts, sawdust, mustard husks, and clay. ; . ' ; Of white pepper, 7 samples were examined, 2 of which were adulterated. adul-terated. Of ground mustard, 69 samples were examined, 15- of which wer.3 pure, 24 were artificially colored, and 30 were adulterated with flour, plaster of Paris, clay, etc. The coloring matters used were tumeric and Martius Yellow, and the latter is a poison. 1 ' . ,--r'v Of 72 samples of . cheese analyzed ana-lyzed none were found to contain any adulterants. Of 4A. samples of unground coffee 33 were pure and 11 adulterated with : peas, chicory, and ; starch ground : and moulded in '. coffee shape.
