Mrs. Woods throat and chin were horribly burned by the acid. : Last week at' Frisco George Parks assaulted John Martinson, a Fin-j lander, with a billiard cue in a saloon sa-loon and inflicted injuries that may prove fatal. Parks was playing pool and had stepped to the bar for a drink.. Martinson must have thought the game was finished; he started to get - the balls in position for a new game, when Parks, without with-out warning, struck him twice on the side of the head with a cue, and as Martinson- lay prostrate on the floor picked up a chair and struck him with that. Parks was arrested but escaped from the officer Monday Mon-day morning between Frisco and Minersville. He had been committed com-mitted to jail for twenty-five days and-took that means of getting away. Officer Stuart, in charge of the prisoner, fired a number of shots at the escaping man, but does not know that any of them took effect. The victim in Frisco is in bad condition, con-dition, his recovery being doubtful. . The sheriff at Ueaver has been 'notified 'noti-fied of the escape from officers and is out after the fugitive. Parks is more of a criminal than this charge of assault and battery indicates. |
