'The yield per acre is much more than was expected during the summer. The reason for pessimism then was the dry weather and the white fly, but, accordnig to indications, indica-tions, this pest was practically destroyed de-stroyed by the late heavy summer rains. The beet industry is one of the mainstays of Cache county. Last year approximately $1,000,000 was paid farmers for their beets. It is estimated that-beet checks this year, will drop below last year's. Thompson A $93,394 contract for laying nine miles of gravel highway from Thompson eastward has been awarded. The contract stipulates that the construction must be completed In 130 days. Bids will be called within a short time for a portion of winter construction, consisting of a sixteen mile project between Cisco and the ' Colorado state line. It will supplement supple-ment a seven mile connecting project now under contract. A, bridge 150 feet long over Westwater wash and another anoth-er of the same length over Cottonwood wash will be included in the contract.
