' It seems appropriate at this tim -to consider the activities of an organ!-' zaton of men and women' of this town which is devoting it's time and it's talent tal-ent to the building tip of-the commnn-ty, commnn-ty, and to the advancement of American Ameri-can ideas and Ideals, gamely, thej American Legion and its Auxiliary. . In 1924, Duchesne PoBt No. 22 of the American Legion was organized with a total membership of fifteen. For the first few years very little was done in a constructive way, except to build up the organization, and develop de-velop a firm foundation for fntnre activities. ac-tivities. The Fourth of July Armistice Armis-tice Day, Memorial Day, and Christmas Christ-mas have always keen days of active work for the Legion since It's incep- . tion ; bnt It was not until three years ago that the Legion began to interest itself In civic affairs. That year the post took over and conducted the Fourth of July celebration with marked mark-ed success. Through their efforts a uniform flag display was purchased and presented to the city, and in the fall of the year they culminated their work by starting the building of a club house and community building. Two years were required for the completion, of this building, which is a decided asset as-set to the community, and a work for which the Legion may be Justly proud. This year the Legion have sponsored the Boy Scout movement and through the earnest efforts nnd splendid cooperation co-operation of Seont Master Bishop, Troop 118 Is forging rapidly to the front The Legion Hall is scout hend-quarters, hend-quarters, and every Monday night an eager bunch of America's future manhood man-hood gather there for their meetings i" and instruction. It is the beginning of a movement which will have a far-reaching far-reaching effect upon hte future of tho community, nnd one which should have the wholehearted support of the peo-" pie. So much for what the Legion hns done. Their plans for the future are broader in scope. They hope to be , able this year to start the Junior baseball base-ball movement in Dnchesne County. To clean up and beautify the club house grounds, to erect a suitable memorial to the men of Dnchesne County who went out to the war in 17. They also al-so Intend to cooperate with the citizens citi-zens of Duchesne In any movement-that movement-that will tend to the JbuHdlng up"' of the town. On this New Tear's Day they extend ex-tend to the citizens of this and the adjacent ad-jacent towns their best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous future, and pledge themselves to do all in theirv power towards making this end of the state a better and finer place In which to live. |
