C BRIGHAM Princeton n University The psychological test for determining intelligence is no more ore in infallible infallible in- in fallible than han the old-fashioned old written examination A low score in a apsy- apsy psychological cholo cal test should not be considered an educational death warrant I One Ole of the greatest benefits of such tests lies in their value in revealing extraordinary talents We find psychological tests of the greatest use in locating talent talent- talent talent- in discovering men of gf exceptional promise We do not find that they are negatively significant that significant that is that low scores necessarily mean dullness or incompetence On the other hand we do feel that high scores scares are re significant for they are demonstrably associated with academic work of at ofa a high order after after aft aft- fter ft- ft er admission if conditions are favorable for the realization of the latent ability thus manifested The psychological test will reveal possibilities ties of development that cannot be explained by conventional measures of attainment in school subjects When used positively for locating talent they are most helpful Of course a group test of intelligence is a rather crude measure and one is certain that when three or four hundred men are examined in one room at the same time that some cases of undoubted ability will not be discovered But every case actually discovered is an asset to society whose potential worth cannot be measure measured or estimated 1 |
