Show rMoc o Gossipy (&is Our Best Minds are Lost to Us The reason our city, and possibly our county, do not grow and develop as they should is obvious when you look around, and see that our brightest young people are forced to go to other areas in order to make a living. The majority of those who stay with us are poorly educated, and lacking in skills. This leaves us with such a scarcity of leadership to be spread around in the community, church, and civic organizations that it is a wonder that we have any progress at all ! With the politics of the United States favoring big cities, big business, and organized organi-zed labor, it will take a lot of work for the rural areas to compete. The fact that most loaning institutions would rather loan their money in the metropolitan areas, makes it difficult to encourage our young people to stay with us. It is increasingly hard for people starting start-ing out to do anything, but to go into a larger area, and work for some big company. This is because they cannot obtain the financing to go into some kind of business for themselves. We are faced with two grave problems: first, our area's lack of ob opportunities that would employ em-ploy highly skilled people, and second, the lack of financing. Until these difficulties are overcome, I see no chance for great improvement in our area. Even courage is a poor substitute for intelligence. . |
