NO RECOGNITION OF UINTAII BASIN Another jolt was received this week with the announcement of appointments for the state-wid- e committee to make a survey of the educational sys-teof the state. In spite of the fact that the Uintah Basin feels that it is now more in need of additional educational facilities than any other section of the state, the governor did not see fit to appoint a member from this section to the committee. The two appointments from the Fourth Judicial district are Mrs. Maude B. Jacob, Provo and Paul H. Hunt, Keetley. It is not our intention to intimate that the Basin will be discriminated against by these or any of the other members of the committee of 15. It does sec-odd, though, that the Uintah Basin, one of the sections in which it is proposed to establish a junior college, should not have on the committee one of its own members who could explain the conditions here far more ably than any outsider could. The committee is appointed; there is nothing more to be done about that. It is within our power, though, since we are not officially represented to see that we do get representation and proper consideration through consistent, well planned and full presentation of our needs to the committee for its study. The Uintah Basin is entitled to a junior college. Its students are just as intelligent, just as valuable and just as entitled to state assistance as those of any other section, and as yet they have not been provided m Utah 2. mat SO EASY TO BUY! The drv-e- r of the modern car who has not kept it in perfect condition is apt to expect of his car the performance it once had, and which it may fail to give in time of an emergency. The best safeguards against both of these dangers is a car in perfect condition, and that is the goal of the state inspection periods. For your own protection and for the protection of the pedestrians and other vehicles on the highways it is your duty to observe these periods and see that your car is always ready to give the best performance of which it is capable. This is not only obeying the law of the state, but obeying the law of self preservation and House Duchesne C INSPECTION FOR TRAFFIC SAFETY The coming week brings to a close the present auto vehicle inspection period during which all autos are required to pass inspection at official stations. Throughout the nation efforts are being put forth to bring about greater safety on our highways. Advances in road construction and in automobile engineering have, in the past few years, greatly increased the speed of traffic on the highway, and there has been an accompanying toll of life from highway accidents. Part of this accident increase is due to many of the older cars, which are not built for the higher speeds, trying to keep up with the modern cars. Equally hazardous is the modern car which has been allowed to drop from the high plane of efficiency in which it was delivered by lack of care of its control Utah RECORD for Trade-Mar- detic ve Poor Light Is Im Crippling1 Sight show, progress at North Salt Lake, brings to our minds again the served.
