R Dunkley Associate Engineer Engine Engine- er Bureau of Reclamation Salt Lake City visited the camp and Inspected the project Tuesday afternoon afternoon afternoon af af- af- af May 25 Dump Trucks Working on Dam Dump trucks are again being used to haul rip rap and course material for the dam They are being loaded from the south borrow pit through a trap built in the side aide of the hill The material is pushed from the top of the hill to the trap with the R 5 Caterpillar Approximately yards of material per day is being hauled by the five trucks being used on two sl shifts Junior Technician Appointed C C. Le Tourneau Angle Dozer This piece of equipment equipment equipment equip equip- ment has been used to good advantage advantage advantage ad ad- vantage since its arrival The first job assigned to this machine was to place a fill around the head- head gate to prevent Duchesne river from washing it out during high water When the danger there was relieved it was moved to the dam where it is loading the trucks wi with th fill material The camp also has a new 1937 model one and one-half one ton Ford 85 truck with a Gallon Galion all steel dump body and hoist The truck is being used by the crew at present This new equipment will be a big help on the project Department to Make Blake Display A large show case in which many kinds of rock quartz petrified petrified petrified pet pet- wood and remains remains remains re re- re- re mains will be exhibited is being made This show case ease will be used used used us us- ed by the Geology class They will label their finds and contribute them to the display This Thia display will be bery bevy in in- Interesting and educational It will also add add greatly to the interest of the Geology class Shop Has lIas Power Tools The new shop when completed will be equipped with a wood lathe a bench saw and a band band saw All of the necessary hand tools will be part of the tho shops shop's equipment These tools tools' have all been ordered ordered ordered or or- dered from Fort Douglas and as soon as they arrive the shop willbe will willbe willbe be ready to go Here men is a good opportunity ty to get some practical experience experience experience exper exper- In shop work Dangerous Drums A welder was trying to op open n the bung of an old acid drum which was naturally supposed to tobe tobe tobe be empty For some reason he used an an acetylene torch flame to burn a ahole ahole ahole hole in the drum He did did and and the drum exploded and injured the welder so seriously that he died dieda a few hours later A powered high-powered rifle fired from froma a good safe distance might have saved the drum and the man too |
