Show I 0 s r MORTICIANS MORTICIAN TS AND GOOD FELLOWSHIP The Funeral Directors and Embalmers of Utah meeting at their then associations association's annual convention in n Salt Lake Cat City Y last week were vere told b by y Mayor Erwin who vho attended the final banquet in in the Elks Elk's Club that he was vas much surprised to witness the general spirit of geniality and good fellowship displayed among the Morticians of the state assembled there There seems to be a pretty prevalent opinion among among a- a mong Inong the laymen of the country that the undertaker I must be a dour sort of fellow v so influenced by his repeated association with sorrow as to have become more or of less immune to the pleasures of entertainment entertainment entertainment entertain entertain- ment and social intercourse enjoyed b by r the multi multi- tudes This idea may be either the result of the actions actions ac ac- ac of the morticians themselves or of the imagination imagination of the laymen The idea is far from correct however and when this fact is generally understood by the public the morticians will viII be better enabled to render their professional service to the public A NEW V CROP OF MEN AND WOMEN IEN The past week has marked the end of school to many of Duchesne county's students Some eighty students graduated from our three county high schools last Friday A fairly large group of Duchesne county students were vere among the graduates from the Wasatch Academy at Mt Pleasant Wednesday and anda d da a few v others are scattered here and there in other high schools over the state While many of these will vill continue their i education in institutions of higher learning next year l probably S the greater proportion of them have written their then last exams and will vill now nov seek a place for themselves in in the world of endeavor To those who vho will viII continue their studies we ve w e offer congratulations congratulations on your your i success in acquiring the diplomas you now nov hold and congratulations lations atios on your your g good fortune i in n being able to continue in In still better equipping yourselves for the time when you will viII step out to take your place ace in the world of business and society To those who vho now have left school chool for the last t time we ve welcome into the you business ti prospects prospects prospects pros pros- do not seem too bright All over the nation thousands of young men and women will vill be leaving school at this t time to seek employment or activity in in a nation already confronted with an extremely serious unemployment situation All fields of endeavor endeavor en en- deavor seem to be overcrowded and to the newcomers newcom- newcom ers seeking to find a foothold in this struggle for d and happiness discouragement is is bound to come quickly Yet it is not all a dark cloud The very nature of today's today s changing conditions promises opportunity to many Times conditions and policies are undergoing a great change Those already e established in in this or of that line of activity are slow v to see and accept the changes slow to adjust themselves to the tile new v order You who are just stepping out of schools are not thus handicapped You have an inexperienced but also an unbiased view point In your schools you have learned learned learn learn- ed to study and think for yourselves and to quickly r I I adopt yourselves to new nev situations And to these abilities the courage and determination which carried carried car cal ried Tied you through your studies studie and your encounters on the athletic fields and you will vill be bevell well vell equipped to offer real cOIn competition petition among those who vho liar have e a greater experience but less adaptability and a rusty viewpoint vie Experience will viII come t to you as you proceed and the hard knocks which will viII accompany it will viII harden J 1 n you to the job of becoming the leaders among b the themen men and women of tomorrow V. A LAST MINUTE CALL FOR HIGHWAY A Y 40 Four weeks ago in these columns we ye suggested a representative to attend the meeting of the American Association of State State- Highway High b bearly Officials Officials- in Chicago I early in June to promote the interests of U. U S. S HighWay HighWay High- High Way Vay No 40 Almost simultaneously President G. G C. C Kohl Iohl of the Associated Civic Clubs 0 of Eastern Utah I maae mace along this line in jn the form lorm of oi communications communications along highway vay 40 asking their support for such a movement To date he has received response from only one community Roosevelt which has promised its full support Good for Roosevelt but what happened to Heber My Myton ton Vernal Craig and Colorado ado communities which have shown much so enthusiasm at Highway Y 40 meetings in in the past Time is short The meeting is only two weeks away a y Southern Utah clubs are doing everything in in their power ver to gain support for highway 50 even to threatening threatening threatening threat threat- ening a boycott of Salt Lake City merchants Either 40 or 50 will viII be chosen as the routing of the new v Roosevelt highway No 6 G at the Chicago meeting We must do something to protect our interests and we ve e emust must act now v. f Time after t time the Uintah a h basin has failed to receive its proper recognition because of lack of coordination among its own o citizens ns Lets get together once and prove to ourselves what hat real combined com com- effort can do I |
