W Crocker has prepared the following following fol- fol lowing owing report of the progress of his department for tor the past year and urges a more complete registration registration regis- regis ration of skilled and skilled semi-skilled labor abor From February 1st to December December December Decem Decem- ber 31 t the National Reemployment Reemploy- Reemploy ment Service for Duchesne and Uintah counties secured placements placements placements place place- ments for 1929 persons including veterans The average registration in the active file fUe during the tho year was 1018 men and women in Duchesne Duchesne Du Du- Du- Du chesne county and men and women for Uintah county New applications and renewals have approximately equalled placements during the year so that the active file has remained fairly constant Due to the fact that we have no private industries in this district district dis dis- and so projects operating to i which we are are- permitted to assign I relief non-relief labor the last two months have been confined primarily primarily prim prim- prim prim-I to the placement of relief I cases on and State Road projects and unfortunately few of or these hess jobs have been of a permanent permanent permanent perma perma- nent nature Shortage of Skilled Labor LaborThe LaborThe LaborThe The Service has been seriously handicapped through the shortage of labor in Ithe the skilled brackets This has entailed the necessity of men from outside the he county to fill certain positions It t is my opinion that this is mainly mainly main- main ly y due to a misconception upon the part of registrants Many men have lave an idea that by registering as laborers only they will have havea a better chance to be assigned to work This idea is ia altogether wrong and has resulted in a surplus surplus surplus sur sur- plus of common labor in the district dis dis- and a n distinct shortage of ol other classes including both the skilled and skilled semi-skilled crafts We desire to serve the unemployed unemployed unemployed to the best of our ability and to retain all work for local residents With this thought in mind we will certainly appreciate having all skilled men who have attempted to hide their talents get in touch with the office im im- im- im mediately |
