Show t il 1 t if 4 A WHAT tHAT 1 ARE YOU GOING TO DO A mighty good point was taken by Mr h. Burnham am of Golden Colo at the highway high 40 meeting at Steamboat Steamboat Steam Steam- boat last week He seemed to take the stand that Jat the building of the road was vas up to the the road officials of the two VO states and as he had their theIl promises that they would take take care of that end of it he was vas satis satis- fied What are you going to do about it when its it's completed com coln- was vas the question he asked and urged that delegate take it home eat with it with every delegate sleep it and think about it from now v until that t time We We believe eve he is right We have talked thought and slept highway high 40 for the past several years constantly constant constant- ly fighting to have it brought up to the standard it it- deserves Both Utah and Colorado seem now nov to realize realize realize real real- ize the importance of this highway high and are endeavoring endeavoring endeavoring oring t to complete it tas as soon as possible We Ve are ab about ut to realize our ambition but are w we ve e ready to capitalize i on the additional business it will vill bring Mr Burnham was vas eloquent on the tourist attractions attractions attractions in Colorado both summer and winter He is right We know v it and a large percent of the tourists know v it but that is only I half calf of the story Utah too can compete in the sale of this commodity and the biggest job now v before the Uintah Basin is to properly proper proper- 1 ly Y I publicize cr th these se resources We have our dinosaur monument at Jensen the Green river and its scenery and hunting Greens lake and the surrounding territory North of Vernal the Duchesne an and d Uintah rivers and the fishing and hunting on them and their then tributaries the Uintah primitive area a vast region egIan of lakes and streams which is a e sportsmens sportsmen's Igar paradise clean and unspoiled in in its primitive condition pr Moon 1 lake an ideal summer resort and holdin holding g great possibilities for winter vinter sports as s well These are just a few v of the many attractions to be found in the Uintah Basin Basal we ve all know v about them its use e them and cherish them but we have as yet made little effort t to o sell them The beauty of this is as Mr Bui Bu Burnham pointed out that we ve can sell them to tourists g get et good prices for r them theIu and still keep them to sell to other tourists or perhaps perhaps per per- haps the same saIne ones over OVel again and at the same saIne t time keep them for ourselves I The time i is s short Great improvements have been made in m highway high 4 40 0 between bet Denver and Salt Lake City and the next year will vill see still g greater r e titer improve improve- mente ment m 1936 Will vill see Probably double the tourist travel of 1935 over this route The Uintah Basin must begin now v to prepare for this travel improving our accommodations accommodations and advertising our resources so that w we ve e may cash in when the ti tide de starts THE ROAD TO MOON l OON LAKE t One of the worst vorst roads in the Uintah Basin considering considering con con- its importance is the road from Duchesne to Moon Lake This road comes under the supervision of four different agencies and therein seems to lie its chief difficulty Starting from Duchesne one tr travels travels trav trav- avels av- av els across the Blue Bench on state highway then t ta to toa a point North of Home the route is on a county I road Following ving that f for or some distance the road crosses Indian grazing land and finally becomes a forest road for the last few v miles to the 1 lake eke A cons constant nt game of passing passing the buck 1 particularly jai y between bet the Indian and Forest departments h hn has as resulted resulted re re- re- re suited in rn n little or no improvement on this all important import import- ant stretch The states state's portion is in fairly T good shape The county we ve know v has little funds for road work vork i but through the WP A considerable improvement is is I being made on their part It seems that it is is high t time for the Indian and Forest departments to do something about theirs and from reports the Fo Forest est department is the worst vorst of f the two The Moon l lake reservoir project will vill be under full construction as soon as weather veather permits in the spring and a constant stream of cars and trucks will vill be passing passing passing pass pass- ing over this road engaged in one way yay or another In in handling traffic for this project In addition to these the lake itself is an ever eyer increasing ng incentive to the sports people and nature lovers lovel s and next summer will vill see a heavy p traffic in this class alone Such heavy traffic as this is entitled to consideration and it would be real boost if the a two federal agencies en- en were vere to start improvements as soon as the theve I ve weather ther will vill permit |
