Show Wisconsin Communities Discuss,' Slum' Problem EAGLE RIVER, Wis. Represen-tatives Represen-tatives from 10 counties in northern Wisconsin met recently to discuss "rural slum" problems which have developed in the past 20 years In that area. Counties represented Included Oneida, Vilas, Lincoln, Langlade, Oconto, Door, Iron, Forest, Florence Flor-ence and Marinette. Because of zoning ordinances, and lack of zoning. In some In-stances, In-stances, there has been a general movement In the area of night clubs and taverns into rural areas. Many have sprung up next to homes and buildings of all types are going up without regard to relationship. As a result a number num-ber of "rural slums" are being created In the counties. The meeting suggested four zoning zon-ing areas are needed In the counties: coun-ties: 1. A forestry district to prevent isolated settlements. 2. A residential district. 3. A residential-recreation district. dis-trict. 4. A commercial district to strv. ice the residential and resort areas. The group urged zoning ordinances ordi-nances include setback lines for highway improvement and require building permits which would provide pro-vide a check on development, prevent pre-vent illegal building and give Information In-formation for proper assessment. |
