D Pope had died in his bed during the latter part of the night ight An autopsy was performed Wednesday morn morn- ing It being a holiday the sta state e chemist was not on duty and until until un un- til the is complete the thel l cause of death is undetermined I Mr Pope was born in Vernal Utah September 9 1899 and ond hi his par parents were Mr and Mrs R. R M. M Pope The Popes moved to Salt t Lake Lalie City in 1901 1901 and to the reservation res- res In 1906 where they homesteaded homesteaded homesteaded home- home on the Strawberry river j Mr Pope received his education in the Duchesne schools In 1916 r- r he went to Oberlin college He became a surveyor and engineer Later he studied law and was adT admitted ad- ad T to the bar in 1923 HeC He C went into partnership with R. R G. G Porter and later moved to Helper r 0 where he and his uncle were partners partners part part- ners for several years After practicing at Helper for about six years Mr Pope moved c. c to Salt Lake City Three years 5 45 1 aB ago he was elected State Commander Commander Com Com- mander of or the American Legion Afterwards he was appointed to tobe be he in charge of the Veterans' Veterans employment employment em- em c bureau in Salt Lake City He was wa in charge of ot this work at ot the time of his death S Mr Pope was unmarried He leaves his mother Mrs Minnie 1 Pope a n. sister Mrs E E. E W.
