Show THE STUDEBAKER AT POINT BREEZE. There were fourteen entries in the 50 mile race held at the Point Breeze track, Philadelphia, on the 13th inst, the horse-power of the different cars varying from 70 as the highest to 12, the lowest. low-est. At the start the 6-cylinder Pullman got the lead and kept it for 12 miles, then something went wrong and it had to get off the track. The American then passed him and took the lead for the next 12 miles and then it went out of business, when the Thomas six took first place and kept it till its engine got overheated when 32 miles of the course had been covered. The Autocar then took the lead with the Studebakcr close behind. After running in this order for five miles the Studebaker forged ahead and kept the lead till one of the rear tires was punctured and they had to finish the race I with a flat rear tire. But notwithstanding this they finished in the I third place, and everybody who saw the race contends that it was I the Studebaker's race till the tire was punctured. The Studebaker I averaged 1.15 during the whole event and was the only car that did I not have to leave the track for adjustment of any kind! I |
