Show i worKino Against Utah. ' Editor Truth: The Presbyterjau Board of Home Missions and the leaders of the j American party, Salt Lake, are work ing hand in hand to injure Utah, and are advertising to the world that Utah , it a hot-bed of treason, despotism, .Diarchy and crime. The R-v. Delos Fink who appears to be at the head of the anti-Utah literary department of the Presbyterian Board of Home Missions is traveling through the ' eastern states giving magic lantern lectures in Presbyterian churches on "Mormonism a Despotism within a Republic." This lecture is published in book form which with 69 magic lantern slides he will loan for $1.50 per night to anyone who will blander Utah and give the proceeds to the Presbyterian Board of Home Missions. Mis-sions. The money thus obtained is to redeem Utah from its awful condi-tion condi-tion of "treason, despotism aiurchy, and crime." On Jan. 28th in the First Presby- Jterian church in Gloucester, New Jersey, Jer-sey, it was my privilege to attend the Rev. Mr. Fink's lecture on Utah, "A Despotism within a Republic." I have heard Dr, T. C. Iliff, the Rev. Mr. Robinson, have read extracts & from Mrs. Devore, Frank' J. Cannon, C. C. Goodwin, Charley Owen, Hans Freese, Mrs. W. W. White, Mrs. ' Sarah Jane Elliott, Dr. Pad'en, Broth er Wishard, Rev. Clemmensou, Rev. Frederick Zimmer and other Utah 1 slanderers, but he Rev. Mr. Fink 19 9t the limit, the greatest defamer of the whole bunch. The Rev. Fink has 1 united, combined and boiled down all I the choice slurs, slanders, and false- 1 V$ hoods of the Tribune and the Pres-H Pres-H hyterian Board of Home Missions in fe one hour's tak. Mr. Fink has no ni'hre rganl for the truth :ind fact 1 M than a hog hat, for a flower garden. Mr. Fink stated at the commencement commence-ment of his lecture that the Mormon people, who compose the great majority ma-jority of the people of Utah", were thieves, vagabonds, drunkards, traitors, trai-tors, despots, anarchists and criminals crimi-nals of all imaginable kinds; that the law abiding citizens of Salt Lake, City had organized themselves into an "American Party" to try to redeem Utah a from her traitorous condition; that in 215 towns in Utah the public schools were Mormon sectarian schools; that the. "State Agricultural college is surcharged with Mormonism Mormon-ism which is debasing;" that "polygamy "poly-gamy is taught publically every Sunday," Sun-day," that it is also taught "that God has many wives, that sin even is necessary neces-sary to progress and therefore justifiable;" justi-fiable;" that the Mormons resort to bloodshedding to carry out their doctrine doc-trine of blood atonement; " that persons per-sons suspected of apostacy from the faith, have been put to death to save their souls from perdition;" "that the Salt Lake Tribune estimated that 600 victims of this foul doctrine had been murdered.'1 Ht pictures a Utah public 'school, all Mormon children (the poorest school he could find in all Utah) 'and he insults our children by stating, when he exhibits this picture, that "scarcely a real bright face is. to. be. seen, but the lower animal nature seems to be stronglyln evidence, their minds are filled with debasing teachings, teach-ings, etc." He illustrates the Westminster West-minster college of Salt Lake City and repeats Robert Stevenson's and Brother Wfshard's lir by stating "that it is the only Protestant Christian college col-lege within a radiusfofj 600 miles of Salt Lake City."- ' Mr: Fink's anti-Utah lecture is certainly cer-tainly the climak of scurrility slander and defamation. He is truly a star actor and .1 good agent for the Presbyterian Pres-byterian Hoard of Home Missions, and the American party of Salt Lake City. His statue should be cast in heroic bronze and plated on the Tribune Trib-une office, where the Ministerial association, as-sociation, Tont Kearns, Frank Cannon, Can-non, C. C. Goodwin and Charley Owen "could look up to, adore, and draw dirly inspiration. Mr. Fink exhibited ex-hibited the Utah Devil Fish badge and emblem -of the Salt Lake Ministerial association. This is a map of the United States with Utah as a big black blot on it in the shape of a huge hideous looking devil fish, That Devil Fish map spoke more slander, more treason, more hatred, and more vituperation, than all the rest of his lecture. He instilled into the minds of his audience that the congress and president of the United States were fools or in league with an octapus when they admitted Utah into the union of states. He insulted the United Unit-ed States army for allowing such a thing to exist. He insulted every person, per-son, industry and institution in Utah. He said he would place on the map of Utah four words (and made a special request of his audience to remember re-member them) Treason, Despotism. Anarchy, and Crime, This devil fish map and the foui words were reflections on Mr. Fink's mind, and the minds of those who designed de-signed that hideous emblem. Treason is disloyalty, and the person who designed de-signed such a map to injure a sister state and her people, and the preachers preach-ers who exhibit it through the country coun-try are disloyal to the union of states, and are therefore traitors. The next word was " despotism." Mr. Fink put the state of Utah and the Mormon church on trial, and neither he nor the pastor of the chu'eh would allow any defense, even when offered $2000 for the privilege. The only places on the globe, civilized or uncivilized, that Know anything about, where thry I "H H do not allow the accused to make any fl defense arc in the political trials in M despotic Russia and in despotic anti- M Mormon meetings. r;H The nct word was "anarchy." Mr. H Fink pictured Uncle Sam, as sleeping jH and having allowed an awful Mormon M monster to get into the United States H senate; that the United States senate H had been corrupted by politics in al- M lowing this monster to remain there; M that the United Stat.'s army and the 'H United States officers in Utah allowed M treason, despotism, anarchy and crime M to go unmolested, and in instilling M such anarchistic thoughts into his au- aH dience, Mr. Fink was teaching an- M archy and was therefoic an anarchist. H The last word was "crime." Any M man who will teach falsehood, hatred, l(H strife, discord and religious anarchy H to little children as Mr. Fink did for H a few pieces of silver, is a criminal. M Mr. Fink closes his lecture and also his book with the following appeal M for money, "Plainly it is the duty of M the (Presbyterian) church to arise at M once in her might, not to do less for H the deliverance of the young pe6ple H of Utah, but a great deal more for H their protection. Our board H of home missions lacks funds to do H this. How shall the need be inet? H A practical suggestion, homely, but H direct, is that if you put your hands H in your pockets you will doubtless find H the remedy. H Blood irtoney. Talk about tainted H money. Every Presbyterian church ,1 and missionary in Utah who receives H any part of his support from the iH Presbyterian Board of Home Mis- M sions is living on a lie that has for its ' I object to taint every baby, every H child, every young man and maiden, 'H every silver haired patriarch of pio- I neer days, every school, every college ' I and all business and institutions of ffl 1 Utah. Mr. Fink's lecture is an infi- I nite lie, every church wheie he gives I it is a public curse. The. Presby- , I terian Board of Home Massionn which 11 1 I jl souls Mr. Fink outfto lecture is an HI .If & - I enemy to the nation. j H How long will the Commercial H club, the Manufacturers and Mcr- H chants' associationfantl the Real Es- HJ tatc exchange of Sall.Lakc City calm-'' IB to ' HJ ly sit down and not praise a hand to HJ combat such awful al'd'lilli tful false-HJ false-HJ hoods?
