solution of chromic a odd beld above the wound to Is also at cold water way may bo be applied to the wound to combat tile tho inflammation n bites of rabid dogs produce an infected wound and the lie virus of rabies introduced d in this manner dianner should bo be removed or destroyed in tho the wound therefore produce considerable bleeding i by incising tile the aou wound ud wash out thoroughly with ten per cent solution of zinc chloride and then apply caustics or the actual thus bitten should be maintained under strict observation tor for the possible development of rabies during it period of at least three months and it if the disease appears the horse hoi so bo killed immediately burns and scalds scald these wounds of ditnes domestic t ic animals are fortunately of rare occurrence third degree where thero there Is a destruction of the vitality of large areas of tissue even on parts not subject to much motion Is extremely tedious to treat in fact it Is questionable whether whet lier tho the treatment arid keep of the animal will ever bo be compensated for even though recovery does toko take place this in any event will require at least six or eight w weeks e eks burns caused euay be used in place of the above in case the burn Is more extensive the following solution may bo be used add acid 2 parts alcohol 40 parts water parts the lesion should be thoroughly cleansed with tills this solution used on oil absorbent cotton the vesicles if any appear should be opened with a clean needle allowing the skin to remain strips of gauze gauce gau ce or absorbent cotton sath saturated rated with tile the solution should now be applied and renewed only occasionally in burns of the second and third do de grees more satisfactory results may anny be obtained with nonpoisonous dry dressing powder such as Is used in ordinary open wounds as tannic acid 8 parts and lodo fonn forin I 1 part or a solve salve made of tills this powder and n sufficient quantity of vaseline vasel lne sloughing of the tissues takes place the wounds should be cleansed with s a warm 8 3 per cent solution of car carbolic bolle neld acid nil all loose fragments of tissue removed and either a dry antiseptic dressing powder or carbolated va vaseline ointment applied to exclude the air proud flesh should be con controlled contrell troll C d b by y th tho 0 application of silver nitrate in the form of a caustic pencil burns due to mineral acids may be ba treated fronted by lushing flushing the parts with a copious quantity of cold water or by the application of whiting or chalk either use a large quantity of water nt at the start or use the chalk first then wash ansh with water it if the irritant ling has been a caustic alkali such as potash lye ani ammonia or soda then vinegar should be the first application carron oil Is a good general application for all burns for the first week then this should be followed by tho the ordinary antiseptic wound dressings dressing sp |
