Show A K bill has recently been introduced into congress providing for an appropriation for the support of farmers Fan ners institute work in several states of the wt W 1 ia I s contingent upon an appropriation from irom the state slate in utah farmers Fan ners institutes institute have been held during the past twelve yew years under the direction of the state agricultural Col collage collaghan lagean an annual appropriation of 1500 bel being in g available forthal for that purpose the last legislature increased this amount to but this is trifle compared to the amount being ex expended p i ended byruch by such states as illinois ic iowa wa nebraska indiana michigan and others prof L A merrill director of the farmers Fan ners institutes is enthusiastic over the passage of the proposed bill by congress as it will enable utah to keep several men in the field during the entire year assisting the farmers fan ners i 1 I mur during i m ga a great part of the year a man should visit the dairy farmer farmers jf the state giving instructions as to the te methods of selecting good profitable dairy cows and proper feeding management the average dairy cow in utah is 13 producing pounds of butter fat 1 per year this average might be increased to pounds if the farmer fanner should be brought to lo realize the importance of eliminating the poor unprofitable cows from the dairy herd similar work could be done in behalf of 0 the dry farm industry the horticultural cultural industry the poultry and in fact every kind of agriculture endeavor the farmers of utah need such individual instructions as would be possible by the increased appropriation provided for foi in the proposed bill and it is to be hoped that the measure will become come e a law |
