Show March 19, 2013 . . IMPAOGOS TIMES - 9 riMrmiftmi' Pleasant Grove Junior High's Mr. Trevor Manning Garners Honor i 1 I" ' 1 i ! ' by PGJHS Staff Mr. Trevor Manning, the choral teacher, was recently named Educator of the Year by Pleasant Grove's Chamber of Commerce. He was in-vited to an awards banquet as one of four finalists on Janu-ary 9 and there was awarded this top honor. Under Mr. Manning's super-vision, Pleasant Grove Junior High's choral program has grown by leaps and bounds. For example, the chamber choir numbers have tripled! More importantly, his stu-dents know him as a man of integrity who shows love and respect to them and to every-one. Through their music stu-dents learn to honor others and make their music mean-ingful. As they sing they convey to their audiences a deep and abiding passion for life, its experiences, its joys, its sadnesses, its inspiration, and its truths. In Trevor's own words, "Let the learning be REAL... real life, applica-ble." He encourages students to dedicate their performance to a loved one who may be in need and to always use talents to serve others. In addition Mr. Manning reports, "I'm trying to en-courage students to overcome the fear of performing, and in so doing, the fear of a lot of things in life." Students are learning much more than music from this extraordinary teacher. He is the ultimate example and mentor and his students' lives are blessed through him. Pleasant Grove J.H.S. Her attendants are Callie Roberts, Madi Harris, Rachel Savage, and Amanda Schneck. When Anna was asked how she felt about winning she said, "I feel wonderful!" The other contestants were Myah Johnson, Sydney Jensen, Kate Preston, Kassidy Stone, Keila Finnestad, Abigayle Holdaway, Nyah Nelson, Shavell Tomlinson, Olivia Chadwick, Halle Rivers, Kaylie Crabb, Glory Thomas, Bryhlie Burke, and Aspen Larson. The pageant began with the Lindon City Police Department presenting the colors and Maddie Wood, a 2011 royalty attendant, sang the National Anthem. With the theme "Shine", the girls did just that as they performed their individual talent, were judged on presence and poise in best dress and answered a question for their on stage interview. The young women were also judged on an interview they had earlier in the day with the judges and Little Miss Lindon Royalty: Callie Roberts, Rachel Savage, Little Miss Lindon Anna Passmore, Amanda Schneck and Madi Harris. Photo courtesy of Timp Times each contestant was required to do a community service project prior to the pageant. Director Joy Nelson stated that the Little Miss Lindon Pageant, which has been held for 29 years, is based on tradition. Such traditions include waffles and ice cream served to the girls and their mothers at the orientation tea. The families of the royalty build the float each year and the father of the queen is always the emcee of the pageant. This year the honor fell to Russ Nelson. The 2013 Little Miss Lindon Royalty entertained the crowd with a special dance number to "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," and Aurora Nelson, the 2013 queen, wowed the crowd with a beautiful number on the violin entitled "Ashokan Farewell". The 2013 royalty, escorted by their fathers, had their" farewell walk. With all the contestants back on stage, Chad Russell sang "Thank Heaven for Lindon Girls", another long standing tradition. The awards were presented by Mayor Jeff Acerson. Olivia Chadwick was recognized for her interview and Aspen Larson for her talent. Shavell Tomlinson was given the Terry & Teresa Service Award. For her project she worked with the Food and Care Coalition in Provo where where she made and donated lunches for the homeless. The Poise & Presence Award went to Nyah Nelson and Abigail Holdaway was given the Colleen McMillan Award of Excellence. - - r r ... ..- UtahValleyFuneral.com : :-- ! - 80 1 .796.3503 UlAH VALLEY MORTUARY " DIGNITY IN EVERY DETAIL LINDA LOU JOHNSON, 68, of Pleasant Grove, UT, passed away, on January 24, 2014.
