Show Jury Finds Defendant Guilty A jury found Wilford Heath guilty of theft after af-ter a short deliberation on Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Seventh Judicial District Dis-trict Court. Judge Edward Ed-ward Sheya presided. Mr. Heath was charged with the theft of a calf belonging to Silliman-Conner, Inc. of Green River, Utah. It was alleged in the Information In-formation that he butchered this calf and brought it into Grand County to his place of residence. The defendant defen-dant resides at Elgin, Grand County, Utah. Witnesses for the State were Sheriff Jack Leamaster of Emery County, his deputy, Sheriff W.H. Bowman, Howard Silliman, and Kenneth Silliman. All testified concerning tracks allegedly made by the defendant leading to the place where the butchered calf was found and as to meat from the calf found in the refrigerator at the defendant's place of residence. re-sidence. The calf weighed about 400 lbs. and the evidence indicated indi-cated that it had a market mar-ket value of approximately approxi-mately $350. The defendant did not testify. The case was submitted sub-mitted to the jury at about 4:10 p.m. and a verdict was reached at about 4:45 p.m. Judge Sheya, upon motion of counsel for the defense, and concurred in by counsel for the State, ordered a pre-sentence report to be furnished on or before October 9, at 10 a.m. and set ! the date for pronounce-', pronounce-', ment of sentence for i that day ' and on that I hour. i |
