Show Devils Stay Unbeaten With 42 to 8 Romp Over Manti By Don Robinson Moabs explosive offense tore apart a vaunted Manti defense Friday, at Snow College Field enroute to a 42-8 pasting of the Templars. Manti had allowed only 51 points prior to the Friday game and the Red Devils nearly doubled that total in an easy win that left them tied with Delta for the Region Seven lead. Moab scored early and often and only permitted points against them in the final two minutes when the reserves were in and the game salted away. Seniors Merrill Noyes and Kenny Bohn again dominated dom-inated the offensive stats. Noyes ended with 194 yards rushing. It was Noyes who scored the first touchdown after Moab recovered a fumble. The initial six points came on a two yard plunge followed by Juan Loveridge's conversion. Manti showed some threat of coming back quickly, but Moab stopped them on the eleven and 23 yard lines. With 20 seconds left in the first quarter Moab scored again and again it was Noyes. The senior fullback then thundered 51 yards on a draw play to score. Loveridge again converted. A pass to Jay Johnson, a twenty yard gallop by Noyes and Bohn's perfect pass to Mike Zimmerman resulted in the third touchdown. Bohn passed to Noyes for the two point conversion. In the second half Moab successfully pulled off a fake punt to keep possession on their first drive. Kenny Bohn with a great fake fooled Manti completely on the next play. Getting a fine block from Mark Roberts. Bohn rolled around end untouched for 51 yards and another score. Loveridge converted and the score was 29 to 0. Jay Johnson's punt return and a 32 yard sprint bv Noyes led to TD number five. Bohn threw to Nick Chavez for 23 yards and the junior end's first touchdown of the year. The fourth quarter, with reserves playing most of the time was a bit ragged, but the Moab defense contributed another score. Taco Day-picked Day-picked up a Manti fumble and scooted into the end zone to make it 41-0. |
