The Bureau of Reclamation constructed and maintains j the building, while the j National Park Service I provided exhibits and I continues to staff the J Center. Considerable optimism was expressed over the possibilities of there being large oil fields in the northern one-third of the basin, of which Moab is located in the center. The optimistic reports especially espe-cially included the Big Flat area on which Pure Oil Co. has two wells in production. Approximately 225 members of the association associa-tion were on the field trip which began with registration regis-tration Wednesday at the Moab Blue Print office. The remainder of that day was spent in sight-seeing around the local area, the day concluding with a barbeque at the M-4 Ranch. 40 Years Ago September, 1938, will probably go down in history as the banner month for elections in Grand County. In addition to the primary election on September 13, three more polls will be conducted in the county before the month comes to an end. On Saturday of this week, the taxpaying voters vot-ers of Moab City will vote on the proposition . of issuing revenue bonds in the amount of $25,000 for improving the municipal water system. Then on next Tuesday, the runoff run-off primary election will be held throughout the county to determine who shall be the Democratic candidate for state senator and the Republican candi-1 date for the county sheriff. I And on Friday, Sept. 30, 1 the taxpayers of Grand' County will decide the J question of issuing hospi- ! tal revenue bonds in the j sum of $33,000 for the j construction of a new county hospital building with the aid of a federal j grant of $27,000. I 60 Years Ago j With the election onlyj one month distant, mat- ters political are decidedlyl quiet in Grand County this I fall. War work is over-j shadowing every other' project, for compared to the win-the-war drives such small things as ai general election are ofi minor consequence. During the past twoj weeks mass meetings! have been held by both I parties to elect delegates I to attend the state audi congressional conventions, conven-tions, and have kindled some interest in the forth-1 coming campaign. Al-1 though there are very few avowed candidates for j nomination for county I offices, members of both I parties are suggesting I citizens for nomination, and it is likely that full tickets will be put in the field by both sides. The county conventions for the nomination of the i tickets are considerably later than usual this year, j and from present indica- j tions will not be held until the middle of October. In I previous years the con-' ventions have been held during the latter part of September or the fore part of October. |
