Show Services held Monday for Virqinia Gruver Funeral services were held Monduy, Sept. 11 foi Virginia Francia Paxton Gruver, whose colorful columns on the life and times of Thompson residents resi-dents were a popular feature in The Times-Independent Times-Independent for more than 30 years. Born Feb. 22, 1898, in Montrose, Co., the second child of five in the family of Hugh Morris and Sarah Jolley Paxton, she died Sept. 7, 1978. She married Marion Gruver in Montrose in September of 1913, and four children were born to the couple. He died in November 1947. A son, William James, and a daughter, Lorene, also preceded her in death. She moved to Grand County in November, 1927 and started a boarding house in Cisco in 1929, raising her family by running this business. She moved to Thompson in 1942 to be PoNtmbftreaa, and held that position about 7 years. In 1943 ahe purchased the Clark's service station, grocery store and cafe complex, and ran it until 1972, when she retired. A collector of people and rocks, she left behind a diversified assortment of both. She was alao an avid catfiwher, her favorite spot being on the Colorado River near Cisco. Survivors include a son, Jesse Gruver, and a daughter, Mrs. D. B. (Alma) Curtia, both of Thompson; 1 sister, Mrs. Charles (Ellen) Staines, Montrose, Co.; 6 grandchildren, grand-children, 7 8tep-grand-chiJdren, and 22 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Services were in the Moab LDS Chapel on 4th North, with Bishop Ronald Holyoak officiating. Family Fam-ily prayer and invocation were by Jack Stewart. Musical selections were by Jack Stewart and Jim Walker with LeGrande Prichard giving the obituary obi-tuary and Mel Dalton as speaker. Benediction was by Bishop Holyoak. Arrangements Ar-rangements were by Hefner's Hef-ner's Funeral Home. Interment was in Grand View Cemetery, Montrose, Mont-rose, Co., with Elder Richard H. Spencer of Montrose presiding at graveside service and dedicating the grave. Pallbearers were John M. Miller, Jesse F. Miller, Jack R. Miller and Dusty Ray Curtis, grandsons, grand-sons, Paul W.
