Spellen On March 16th Father. Lawrence M. Spellen will celebrate the 25th anniversary anni-versary of his ordination to the " Priesthood. Father was ordained in the Cathedral Cath-edral of St. James in Rockford, 111. by the late Bishop, Boylan. Father Spellen was born in Chicago 111. on August 17th, 1917. He received his early education in the Parochial 9(chool System of Chicago. He entered St. Joseph Servite Seminary in January 1939 where he completed his course of studies in Philosophy and Theology. After his ordination ord-ination he became Rector of St. Joseph's Minor Seminary Sem-inary - in St. Charles III. for the next six years. Father' Fa-ther' then' became Superior of the Servite' Church of Mt. - Carmel ' in ' Denver, Colorado. He also received receiv-ed further 1 education at Loyola University in Chicago,'" Chi-cago,'" 111.- arid Utah ' State .Univei.'si),y, receiving his Secondary Certification of the State of Utah in 1956. Father Spellen was accepted ac-cepted in the Diocese of Salt Lake City in June 1953. Since his arrival he has served as an . Assistant Assist-ant at Thereses's Parish, Midvale and at Sacred Heart and at St. Patrick's Parish in Salt . Lake City. His first Pastorate was at Our Lady of Lourdes, Magna Ma-gna Feb. 14, 1958 until January 1969. Then he was transferred to St. lOlaf's . Parish, Bountiful ' 'until coming, to the Moab his coming to the Moab Monticello. Parish, July 1st 1970. Father Spellen was a member of the Faculty of Judge Memorial .High School, fa-ora November 1953. to . March 1963. A release time Centre was ' then- opened' at Cyprus High Schopl in Magna ' where he taught until his transfer in 1969. . The... anniversary celebration cele-bration being Hosted by St. Pius X Altar Society will be on Tuesday evening even-ing March 16th beginniug at 7:30 p.m. A concele-brated concele-brated Mass of Thanksgiving Thanks-giving will be offered by Father Spellen, Bishop . Joseph L. Federal D.D. and ten other priests, three of whom were taught tau-ght by Father in . High . School. The Sermon for this occassion will be delivered de-livered by Bishop Federal. Feder-al. The music for the mass will be given by the teenagers teen-agers of the Parish. An informal reception will follow in the Parish Hall after the Mass. All are invited to attend. |
