Show Hanksville News. . . By Barbara Ekker Those attending the Albert Al-bert May funeral in Green River Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ekker, Mr. and Mrs. Darys Ekker, Ek-ker, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Hatch and Kori, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Ekker. Services Ser-vices were conducted by Rev. Edward J. O'Malley at the Community Presbyterian Pres-byterian Church. Speaker Speak-er was Mrs. Iona Ekker who presented a tribute to Albert May written by his neighbor for 40 yeans, Miss Una Gillies. Music by the choir and a solo, 'These Hands' was sung by Ted Ekker, benediction by Jack McKay. Mc-Kay. Pallbearers were Arthur and A.C. Ekker, Bill Cline, Stewart Wilson, Wil-son, Jack McKay and James Chronopolus. Burial was in Fruita, Colorado, Elmwood Cemetery, Ce-metery, near his wife, Mamie, who preceeded him in death in 1957. Albert is survived by two children, Roy of Green River, June Young, Bull Frog Basin, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Clella Ekker received re-ceived word Thursday that her brother, Morris Lance, has been rushed to the Payson hospital following a partial stroke. She and her mother, mo-ther, Edna Lance, left Friday morning for Pay-son. Pay-son. Talked with Gene Dunham Dun-ham in Green River Saturday Sat-urday who ranches below there and he'd reported he'd lost ten head of cows in the river that morning while watering. Received word from the J. Bracken Lee's in Salt Lake that Mrs. Margaret Mar-garet Lee's brother-in-law, Warren Huntington, had passed away Dec. 18th in Salt Lake. Warren War-ren and Ruby were wed 23 years ago at the Temple Tem-ple with their reception at the Governor's Mansion Man-sion as J. Bracken was just beginning his second survived by three sons and one daughter and his lovely wife, Ruby. Mrs. Joyce Peterson returned home Saturday from the Moab hospital with her new daughter born Jan. 18th. Joyce and George have named the little miss, Betsy Dee, after grandpa, Dee Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Noyes and son, Stanley, were in Provo the fore part of the week for mod -ical attention. Mrs. Clella Ekker was acting as postmaster during Mrs. Noyes absence. Mrs. Edith Miller and daughter, Linda, returned return-ed from southern California Calif-ornia this week after attending at-tending an art show there. Edith is a talented artist both on canvas and rock and was able to sell all items taken to the show. She visited with another daughter and family there. s". a Ted Ekker and two sons, Green River, and Justin Ekker, Hauksville, attempted some fishing in Lake Powell at Bull Frog where black crap-pie crap-pie are reported to be biting good but they returned re-turned minus fish. The Young Married Couples gathered at the church recreation hall Saturday evening for a very entertaining evening even-ing under the leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Ekker. Games were played play-ed and then a basketball game with both guys and gals taking part followed by refreshments. Ten couples were in attendance. attend-ance. Dr. Keith Hooker saw patients Wednesday at the clinic after flying in from Green River. His landing on the strip south of tow n was hazardous because automobiles have cut deep into the crusted snow which has frozen. We'd like to remind the youth that the strip isn't a raceway or entertainment entertain-ment area. It's keptgrad-ed keptgrad-ed and cleared for the' use of airplanes and especially es-pecially emergencies at the clinic. Howard Smith, who was seriously injured in a car accident New Years Day at the Tracyte Bridge south of Hanksville was transferred to the Veterans Vet-erans Hospital in Grand Junction from Utah Valley Val-ley Hospital. Smith was flown to Provo by Dr. Eugene Davie following the accident which broke his leg, hip, jaw, nose George Adams was visiting with friends in Hanksville on a short leave from the Veterans Hospital where he underwent under-went surgery on his hip in Sept. School was recessed for the morning Wednesday Wednes-day after the furnace malfunctioned and filled the building with smoke. The janitor, Mrs. Dona Whitby, Harold Ekker and Milton Rose soon had the repairs made and school was resumed at noon. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Robinson Rob-inson received word that Joshua Nielson. Guy's brother-in-law. had been hospitalized in Moab with the flu. Other Green Riv-crites Riv-crites also hospitalized were Una Gillies, Ethel Tacker, Stella Curtis and Jane Stott. Last week I reported that Eula Allen had been visiting her daughter, Da rlen Wyatt, in Moab. it should have beenShar-on beenShar-on Wyatt and family. Her other daughter's name is Darlene, a former Woman Wom-an of the Year. Utah Wildlife Resources Resourc-es personnel have been in the area the past week making aerial survevs bv helicopter. They 'have been landing and refueling refuel-ing in Hanksville during their studies. They hoped to make a count of Ue buffalo herd. Wayne High School will present the musical "Sound of Musie" the Kith of February. Hanksville youths participating jn roles are Dannv . iH'echt, Neva and La Mont Ekker. Howland on Wednesday. Several matters were taken up. particularly moving the present speed limit sign down to the City Limits, and obtaining' obtain-ing' some land for a Tourist Tour-ist Information center. Chairman of the Board Ted Ekker appointed committees to look into these matters and meet w ith the proper State people peo-ple to promote the projects. pro-jects. Stork Shower. . . Mesdames J a c q u i e Jewkes. Lovell Gnch. Paula Moore and Jo Baxter Bax-ter were hostesses for a stork shower for Mrs. John O'Malley at the home of Mrs. Jewkes on Tuesday. Games were plaved with prizes won by Mrs. O'Malley. Mrs. Lucille Silliman and Mrs. Peggy Jarman.
