Some will bitterly condemn the Forest Sirvico for the erection of new water bars and the re-construction of old ones. Water bars are put in on some mountain l oads in lieu of standard maintenance procedures lhey are designed to a particular job. Whether they do the job they are designed for is not the big gripe. If a person can't get their vehicle over roads that they have been over before, then they are going to start asking questions and they want answers. Many local residents are up in arms over the condition of the Geyser Pass Hoad and they have a right to be. Making a road nearly impassable to most of the populace of the area is not in good standing of those that are affected. Many persons have made regular trips into the Geyser area and they should have better road conditions on which to travel. The road in question ques-tion is in very rough shape. Forest Service officials maintain that they do not have enough funds to do regular grading and maintenance work. The County road crews maintain large portions of the Forest Service road system. The roads they maintain on a regular basis are in good shape during most of the year. Granted, even those roads have been nearly impassable im-passable at times. But if there is a bad section of road, the county crews usually have it straightened out in short order. Possible solutions to the problem have been made by many persons. The Forest Service states that they don't have available funds for going back up on the mountain and smoothing out the water bars. Any way you look at it, it is going to take time and money. Any way you look at it there are going to be unhappy people. Coordination of county and federal road designers or engineers should be a must in a situation like this. The County Commissioners agree that the road is substandard and not passable to all vehicles. Taxpayers agree the same. The fact is that just about everyone has heard of the problem and not enough have taken the time to investigate the condition of the road firsthand. To stop the same thing from happening again, plans should be drawn up and both agencies should go over them and make a decision. If one group is handicapped by a lack of funds to do the job the way it should be done, then plans should be made for the necessary work to be done in some other manner. " " "i 1 1 ... .
