Show Heart and Blood Disease Are Costly to Nation "Heart and blood vessel diseases dis-eases cost the nation $17.3 billion annually, including lost income and payment of medical care, Mike Knell of the Heart Fund Business Solicitation Sol-icitation said Tuesday. "In addition, these diseases cost business and industry about 25 million of man-days of production. "These are the economic facts of cardiovascular disease dis-ease that no businessman can afford to overlook," said Mr. Knell. "However, dollars alone al-one do not tell the story," he added, "since it is impossible to compute the human suffering suf-fering and disruption of family fam-ily life that results from more than one million deaths annually an-nually caused by heart and blood vessel diseases." Among these deaths, heart attack will strike more thar: 670,000 men and women ir 1972. Mere than half of the'ii-victims the'ii-victims will die outside the hospital, many of them because be-cause they fail to act quickly and receive medical attention atten-tion when heart attack symptoms symp-toms first appear. During the Utah Heart Association As-sociation Campaign being conducted this week, Mr. Knell said area firms will b asked to cooperate in the fight against this major health problem pro-blem and distribute "Heart-saver" "Heart-saver" literature to their executives ex-ecutives and employees. The "Heartsaver" is a new publication from the Heart Association As-sociation which tells how to reduce the risk of heart attack, at-tack, the early warning signs of heart attack, and what to do when symptoms occur. |
