Show Scouts Hike In LaSals PAT BARRETT, reporter Last Wednesday, Troop 317 of Moab began a hike which took them over most of the LaSal Mountains. The group started at Don's . Lake and hiked to Beaver Basin where we worked on ' conservation and camped for the night. The following .morning . we hiked over the mountain moun-tain and worked more on conservation on the way . up. Getting near the top we stopped to explore a mine where most of the boys found smokey quartz crystals. When we reached the top we were at a height of 11,000 feet. Going along the side for a while, thei stopping to have lunch, we then started down the side into Miner's Basin where we camped for the night. The next morning we hiked back up the mountain moun-tain and down Shuman Gulch to Warner Campground Camp-ground where we camped for the next two days. During the two days we worked on conservation and rested. We resumed hiking Sunday Sun-day morning. We hiked over ov-er and down to Oowah Lake. We ate lunch and filled our canteens and headed up the other side of the lake and across the top of the mountain. Going Go-ing down, we crossed Horse Creek and further on to Brumley Creek. We camped for the night south of Brumley Creek. The weather was good up until then when we got some rain that evening. " We got some rain in the morning for a while, while we were hiking. We got to Pack Creek and came to a drop off so we crossed cross-ed the creek and went up. We got to the top and after af-ter a while we found a place where we could get down so we lowered the packs in some places. The task of coming off the side of Hell's Canyon was not too easy. Finally reaching the bottom we fought oak 'brush until we reached the road. We walked the road to Pack Creek Ranch where we were picked up. |
