Show U of U School on Alcohol Draws Moa bites Nino Moabites attended the 22nd annual session of the University of Utah Ut-ah School on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies. Depen-dencies. Scholarships to attend the school were provided provi-ded by Moab City, Grand County, Moab Drug Advisory Ad-visory Board, Four Corners Cor-ners Mnetal Health, Utah Ut-ah Division of Alcoholism Alcohol-ism and Drugs, Utah Alcoholism Al-coholism Foundation and the University of Utah. In addition to lectures from some of the nations na-tions best known authorities author-ities on alcoholism and other drug dependencies, several specialized workshops were offered by the school. Members of the Moab team participated par-ticipated in the intensive training sessions in the fields of nursing, treatment, treat-ment, education, criminal crimi-nal justice, youth and employe em-ploye programs. Emphasis was placed in all areas of the school on the human relations aspect of drug and alcohol al-cohol problems. Public and professional attitudes attitu-des were cited as the greatest obstacle to effective ef-fective programs in education, ed-ucation, prevention treatment and rehabilitation. rehabilita-tion. The present cost to the nation to deal with alcoholism, drugs and their related problems was stated to be in excess ex-cess of twenty billion dollars per year. With more than nine million problem drinkers in this nation, alcoholism was considered to be our number one health problem. |
