Show Canyonlands Area Leasing Draws Industry Interest Oil and gas leasing activity this week centers cent-ers in the Moab region with a lease spread of nearly 81.3 .3 0 acres of oil and gas lease applications applica-tions field with the Bureau Bu-reau of Land Manage ment in Salt Lake City, notes Carlton Stowe, Minerals specialist. Utah Geological and Mineral Min-eral Survey. Lease applications ap-plications were filed by Thomas C. Moran. independent in-dependent oil operator headquartered in Denver. Den-ver. Moran filed leases covering -19.875 acres in eight townships immediately im-mediately west of the Green River extending to about 10 miles to the east of the low n of Hanks -ville. His applications cover townships 28 and 29 south, ranges 13 thru 16 east in the Orange Cliffs area just to the west of the Cain onlands Park. There has been widely scattered drilling clone in this vicinity of the southern San Rafael Desert area, most recent re-cent was a 1.191 foot unsuccessful well drilled by Mountain Fuel Supply in township 30 south, range 14 east. In Garfield Gar-field County, Moran filed leases on 2.002 acres in the northeastern section of the county in the Di rty Dev il River area. In San .Mian County, some 1 5 to 30 miles south of Moab. Moran's lease applications applica-tions on 29,500 acres lie generally on the east side of the Canyonlands Park, east of the Colorado Colo-rado River, in the Hatch Point and Hart Basin areas. The oil and gas leases e tend (mm low n -ship 29 to 31 south, rang es 20 to 21 east. An 8.000 foot exploratory well by Chorney Oil Company, Casper, is presently being drilled in township 31 south, range 22 east, just west of 1'. S. Highway 163. north of Monticello and west of Church Rock. |
