Show Awards Presented to Park Personnel Acting for Superintendent Superin-tendent Robert I. Kerr at a recentStaff Meeting of southwest Utah National Na-tional Park Service personnel, per-sonnel, Acting Superintendent Superin-tendent I. .vie Jamison p r e s en t e d s e v e r a I awards to employees of Arches and Canynnlands National Parks and Natural Na-tural Bridges National Monument. District Rangers Lou Ilendrickx (Natural Bridges National Monument) Monu-ment) and Wayne Norton (Arches National Park) accepted Certificates of Commendation for outstanding out-standing safety records. Neither area experienced experienc-ed any accidents involving involv-ing Government vehicles vehi-cles last year, nor were there any fire losses anywhere in the Canyon-lands Canyon-lands Complex. J. Leonard Leo-nard Volz, Director of the National Park Service Ser-vice Midwest Region, sent a letter of congratulation con-gratulation which pointed point-ed out that "Outstanding safety records do not just happen, but are brought about by employees em-ployees being alert, attentive, at-tentive, concerned and having good positive safety attitudes." A second letter from Director Volz accompanied accom-panied a Citation for excellence of service recognizing District Ranger Wayne Norton's, part in a special National Na-tional Park Service Peace Task Force last year. The Citation, a unit award directed to all members of the task force, was signed by the Honorable Rogers C. B. Morton, Secretary of the Interior. In commending com-mending Task Force members "...for the high degrees of professionalism profes-sionalism exhibited in dealing with the Rainbow-Family Rainbow-Family of Light's Gathering Gath-ering of Peace..." in June and July of 1972. Secretary Morton made a number of complimentary compli-mentary observations. . The gathering of about Hi, 000 people required, in the words of Secretary Secret-ary Morton, "...longand arduous hours of duty.." during which the Task Force members demon- ; slrated "...dedication, restraint, and good ' j u d g e m e n t. . .tact. . . high degree of professionalism. profes-sionalism. . ." In addition to the safety sa-fety awards and the De-pa De-pa rtment of the Interior Citations, lapel pins testifying to two employees' em-ployees' length of service ser-vice were presented at Monday's Staff .Meeting. A c t i n g Superintendent Jamison presented "Dutch" Gerhardt with a 10 year pin and Wayne Norton with one commemorating com-memorating 20 years of, service. The pins, certificates, and other awards received re-ceived this week and in the recent past by personnel per-sonnel of the Canyon-lands Canyon-lands Comples demonstrate demon-strate the variety of forms of recognition National Park Service employees may receive. Ranging from length of service pins acknowledging acknowled-ging the numberof years of duty, to citations, certificates, cash awards for suggestions, and pay increases for sustained superlative . work, awards recognize a wide variety of accomplishments. |
