The group set records for numbers of vehicles and for numbers of partici pants as well. Some rigs were in town from as far away as Georgia and Minnesota for the annual event. (Photo by Sam Taylor) About Mill members of Lions International are expected to be in Moab (his weekend for the Spring Uoiind-l lp of District Dis-trict 2H-A, which includes in-cludes the Moab Lions Club. The events of the weekend week-end will get under way Friday, April 27, when registration will begin at the Kamada Inn from 3 to 5 p.m. Registration will continue at Lions Park from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with the opening mixer for adults and youngsters to be held between be-tween 7 and 10 p.m. The welcome for the group will be given by Keith Peterson, president of the Moab Chamber of Commerce with response to be given by Lion District Dis-trict Governor Lloyd Win ward. Meetings will begin on Saturday at 6 a.m. with a cabinet meeting at the Kamada Inn. Late registrations regis-trations will continue from 8 to 10 a.m., also at the Kamada. At 8:30 a.m., the general assembly as-sembly will meet at Star Hall. Members of the Moab Lei) Club will host river float trips at 9 and 1 1 a.m. with participants to meet at Tag-A -Long Tours on North Main. For those not taking the early float trip, workshops work-shops and seminars will be held at the Junior High School at 9:30 a.m. Presidents and vice presidents will meet with Lion Lloyd Winward; secretaries and treasurers treasur-ers with Lion Lowell Wardle and tail twisters and Lion tamers with Lion Gordon Wood. During Dur-ing this same lime period there w ill be a horse shoe pitching contest hosted by the Salem Lions at the Canyonlands Campark on South Main. Ladies entertainment for the morning will include in-clude a style show at 10 a.m. presented by the Woman's Literary Club of Moab at Star Hall. The group will break for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Afternoon activities begin be-gin at 1 p.m. with a tour of Arches National Park. Lions are to meet at Lions Park and w ill leave in a group. At 5 p.m. there will be a Leo Club meeting with Lion Rodney Phillips in charge. The group will meet at the Junior High School. A barbequc dinner at 7 p.m. and a talent show to be held at Lions Park round out the activities for the day. On Sunday Key members mem-bers breakfast will be held at 7 a.m. at the Kamada Inn with recognitions recog-nitions to be made by Past District Governor Maron Oveson. At 8 a.m. there will be a Leo Club Forum under the direction direc-tion of Lion Rodney Phillips Phil-lips at the Junior High School. The general assembly will meet at Star Hall at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Delegates meeting under un-der the charge of Lion Lowell Wardle at 9:15 a.m. at the Junior High School . At 10 a.m., the group will adjourn for church services with inter-denominational services to be held at the Senior High School athletic field at 10:30 a.m. Song selections sel-ections will be presented by the Moab Community Baptist Church Choirand the message will be delivered de-livered by Lion Dr. Fran cis Moi lensen, Past District Dis-trict Governor of Di strict 28-A, from American Fork. r Following the service at 12:30 p.m., a luncheon lunch-eon meeting will be held at the Helen M. Knight auditorium. Events for the luncheon include the presentation of the colors col-ors by the Moab Leo Club and entrance of honored hon-ored guests at 12:45p.m. This is to be followed by the luncheon. After the meal, a program will be presented by Lion Don Davis. Keynote speaker for the event will be Lion Sidney J. Bernard, International In-ternational director from New Mexico. Awards Aw-ards and recognitions will then be given to the Montezuma Creek Lions, Vernal Lions, Moab Leos, American Fork Lions, Provo Lions, He-ber He-ber Lions, Moab Lions, and Lion District Governor Gov-ernor Lloyd Winward. Final event of the round up will be a special announcement an-nouncement by Lion Cabinet Cab-inet Secretary Lowell Wardle, following which, the meetings will be adjourned. |
